Tar Heels in NBA: Anthony assist shy of triple-double; Sharpe scores career-high; Barnes leads Kings past Lakers; White scores 16

On a night when 11 of the 13 UNC alums in the NBA had games, Cole Anthony, Day’Ron Sharpe, Harrison Barnes and Coby White all had big nights. Anthony missed his first career triple-double by one assist, Sharpe scored a career-high 20 points in 22 minutes in his first NBA start, Barnes scored 23 as Sacramento beat the Los Angeles Lakers and Coby White netted 16.

Tar Heels in NBA: Bulls roll with White’s 8th consecutive double-digit scoring game; Johnson, Jackson miss Suns’ win

Coby White scored in double figures for the eighth consecutive game as the Chicago Bulls rolled to a 133–87 home win Tuesday night over the Detroit Pistons. White collected 13 points and three assists and continues to create tough decisions for Bulls management as the Feb. 10 trade deadline gets closer. He’s averaging 17 points in the last 10 games and shooting 51.4% from 3-point range in the last eight games.

Tar Heels in NBA: Sharpe has best game of rookie season but travel-weary Nets fall to Little’s Blazers

In a battle of UNC alums Monday night, Nassir Little’s Portland Trail Blazers got the better of Day’Ron Sharpe’s travel-weary Brooklyn Nets, but Sharpe had the best game of his rookie season. In the Blazers’ 114–108 home victory, Little had 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in his 14th consecutive start. Sharpe played a season-high 24 minutes and put up season-high totals of 14 points, six field goals, three blocks and two assists. He tied his season-high of seven rebounds, which he had collected in two earlier games, and was a team-high +14.

Tar Heels in NBA: Lakers go to Ellington’s instant offense too late; White, Little, Anthony all double-digit scorers

It’s not clear why Wayne Ellington didn’t play in the Los Angeles Lakers’ previous two games. What is clear after Sunday night’s game is that his instant offense was being wasted on the bench. By the time Ellington finally got into their home game against Memphis a minute into the fourth quarter, the Lakers already trailed by 26 points.

Tar Heels in NBA: Anthony’s All-Star-level performances keep coming, but in losses; Johnson’s NBA-best streak of multiple 3s continues in Suns loss

Cole Anthony consistently is delivering one good game after another but the frustrating losses for his Orlando Magic are coming at the same pace. Anthony contributed 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists on Saturday, but it came in a 97–92 road loss to the Detroit Pistons (8–30), in a matchup of the NBA’s two worst teams. It was the eighth consecutive loss for the Magic (7–33), which has the worst record in the league.

Tar Heels in NBA: White, having fun after another big game for streaking Bulls, talks about his role; Bullock hits five 3s

Coby White has settled in to his role of coming off the Chicago Bulls’ bench with the return of Lonzo Ball the last two games but the outstanding games keep coming. In 31 minutes, White was 7 of 8 from the floor for 21 points and four 3-pointers with three assists as the host Bulls beat the Washington Wizards 130–122 for their ninth consecutive victory.

Tar Heels in NBA: Johnson scores career-high, extends NBA-best streak with multiple 3s, Jackson scores 8 in Suns win

The Phoenix Suns became the first team to win 30 games this season and Cameron Johnson has been an important part of getting them there. In the Suns’ 106–89 home victory Thursday over the Los Angeles Clippers, he scored a career-high and team-high 24 points, in addition to pulling down seven rebounds, blocking two shots and getting a steal. That topped his previous-best scoring game of 22 against Denver earlier this season on Nov. 21.

Tar Heels in NBA: With 5 3-pointers, Johnson on shooting streak that even Curry hasn’t matched this season

To say that Cameron Johnson has been shooting well understates what he’s meant to the Phoenix Suns in recent weeks. Stephen Curry may have become the NBA’s all-time 3-pointers leader, but he hasn’t had a streak this season to match Johnson. Johnson’s career-high-tying five 3-pointers in the Suns’ 123–110 win at New Orleans extended his franchise-record streak of games with at least two 3s to 20, the longest streak in the NBA this season. Curry’s best such streak this season is 17.
