State obviously you know closer down to
0:02
the wire game lower scoring game and
0:03
this time you guys offensively kind of
0:05
more in the blow what do you think was
0:06
the difference and what do you think was
0:07
the kind of the adjustments and changes
0:09
um I our our defense and our rebounding
0:12
I thought our defense was really good um
0:15
especially off of ball screens um you
0:18
know we stayed with their Shooters we
0:20
didn't allow Lanes um to get to the
0:23
basket that you know the first time that
0:25
we played they were you know scoring at
0:28
will in a paint and then the biggest
0:30
reason is the rebounding you know we out
0:33
rebounded them by I think it's
0:35
19 and I mean they had 16 offensive
0:38
rebounds against us that's something
0:40
that I communicated to them every second
0:44
of the day um the last couple days at
0:47
practice and so like it was huge for us
0:51
to finish the possession with the box
0:53
out and we felt like if we could box out
0:55
and rebound we would be in perfect
0:58
position to be able to to um get out in
1:01
transition and that's what we were able
1:03
to do some of the guys said the mission
1:05
going in was to put them away early and
1:08
they felt like maybe the pressed and
1:09
some other things want to do that how do
1:11
you get them to bottle that up and move
1:14
it forward they thought that that gave
1:16
them a lot of uh fuel well I mean I I
1:19
you know the the message was to box out
1:22
and rebound the message was to take care
1:25
of the basketball because I felt like in
1:27
the first time that we played NC State
1:29
our turnovers our shot selection wasn't
1:32
very good at all um and so those are
1:35
things that we wanted to clean up we
1:37
wanted to be better defensively
1:38
obviously wanted to do a better job in
1:40
terms of
1:41
rebounding and then taking care of the
1:43
basketball and then something else that
1:46
I think we did the best I don't know
1:47
statistically but we finally had to
1:50
three four and five get to the offensive
1:51
glass I mean we got Second Chance
1:53
opportunities and just the activity
1:56
level of giving us more cracks
1:58
offensively to be able to score or just
2:01
you know Drake Jay wit Vin all of them
2:05
it was it was really good our most
2:06
Second Chance points since the first
2:08
game of the year we had 22 against Elon
2:10
21 tonight that's awesome Heber what do
2:13
you like about what the Press seems to
2:15
give you guys when you when you put it
2:18
on in certain spots of these games I do
2:20
I I think it does two things one well
2:22
three things one you're right the energy
2:25
level like picks up I think two it
2:27
creates turnovers and then three um it
2:31
speeds a team up and so I think we
2:34
created maybe three or four turnovers
2:36
off that press but that doesn't account
2:38
for the Times where they took a quick
2:40
shot yeah and then we were able to get
2:42
the rebound and and be able to go and so
2:46
um I like it more at times with certain
2:51
individuals out there on the floor so
2:52
I'm always thinking about that as well
2:55
but it's something that's just really
2:56
been good for us and it's something that
2:58
we're going to use every game
3:00
obviously an unusual situation with the
3:02
crowd in the storm and all that but what
3:04
what did you feel the energy from the
3:06
crowd brought you again no it
3:08
um I felt it and the players after the
3:12
game felt it as well like the energy in
3:16
the Smith Center was a huge determining
3:19
factor of our energy out there on the
3:21
floor I just I can't thank the fans
3:24
enough in this weather to be able to
3:26
have 14 almost 15,000 fans come in the
3:30
middle of a snowstorm to be able to
3:32
support this team um a number of
3:35
students came to be able to support
3:37
their fellow
3:39
classmates
3:41
um and again it's really neat that you
3:44
know they were able to walk here you
3:47
know and to be able to support their um
3:49
classmates as well so it reminded me I
3:52
think it was
3:53
2014 when we played um a makeup game
3:57
against Duke and um the crowd
4:00
just the energy level and so when I
4:01
walked out I felt it and felt it
4:04
throughout the game just much thanks for
4:06
everybody did you feel a difference of
4:08
having students down low compar as up
4:11
high for well I mean I just felt like
4:13
the energy um it was just loud from the
4:16
start you know and it
4:19
um I felt it the players felt it and it
4:22
really did make a difference for them
4:25
and they showed it just a just a couple
4:28
more cuz it's late I and we're back here
4:30
in two days couple more uh Harrison
4:33
Ingram was at practice this week and you
4:35
think it's coincidence that the team
4:36
took on maybe a little bit of his
4:38
personality tonight with the rebounding
4:40
and being more aggressive overall well
4:42
it was great having him back I mean I
4:45
told him the only bad part about
4:47
Harrison is that just had an opportunity
4:50
to coach him one year and so it was
4:53
great to have him here the last couple
4:54
days at practice just to be around the
4:56
guys but even just more importantly just
4:59
being able to spend time with him he's
5:01
such an unbelievable person and what a
5:03
blessing it was to be able to coach him
5:05
last year and he's doing great great
5:07
things with the Spurs right now how
5:09
important was it for those guys coming
5:11
off the bench to provide over 40 points
5:13
today I know they I mean the the the
5:15
energy level um stayed the same or is
5:19
even better coming off the bench you
5:21
know you you got Seth coming off the
5:23
bench and giving his energy on both ends
5:26
of the floor Ian Cade came in there
5:29
knocked a couple couple threes in I'm so
5:30
happy for him and I thought he played
5:33
extremely well Jay wash and
5:37
so everybody was smiling in the locker
5:39
room after the game and so that puts a
5:41
smile on my face Hubert do you I think
5:44
this is the second time in a row you
5:45
guys have led wire to wire in in a game
5:48
um do you feel like this team is kind of
5:50
turning the corner what have you seen
5:51
over the last week or so with these
5:53
guys well I thought it was one of our
5:57
most if not the most complete game that
5:59
we we played all season I just you know
6:02
I
6:03
thought you know our energy our effort
6:05
our attention to detail on both ends of
6:08
the floor was really good um the energy
6:11
from the bench was sustained or even
6:14
better um and so um I'm really happy
6:18
about that and you know I turning a
6:22
corner I don't know but I I know that we
6:24
played well tonight I know that our
6:27
practices over the last week have been
6:29
been very spirited and it's been the
6:31
best practices that we've had all all
6:34
season in terms of
6:37
competitiveness and we'll do that uh
6:39
Thursday and Friday in preparation for a
6:41
really good Virginia team thank you
6:43
Hubert so an ACC
