North Carolina finished off its first ACC sweep of the season, smothering California with one final burst of offense and power pitching in a 10–2 win Sunday in Berkeley, Calif.
UNC (17–3–1, 4–2 ACC), which moved up one spot to No. 14 in the D1 Baseball poll released Monday controlled the weekend from start to finish, outscoring Cal 14–5, nearly a year after the Tar Heels’ last road sweep against Wake Forest.
The Tar Heels scored in six of nine innings and piled on four straight innings with runs from the second through the fifth.
Ten Tar Heels reached base as the Heels stacked up 10 hits and 11 walks, marking their third straight game with double‑digit runs.

Duke transfer DH Macon Winslow went 2-for-4 and had a breakout day with a double, a homer, three RBIs and a walk, contributing to Carolina’s six extra‑base hits.
The long‑ball production didn’t end there. Catcher Colin Hynek opened the scoring with a second‑inning liner that skipped over the right‑field wall, first ruled a triple before replay showed it had carried out. First baseman Erik Paulsen added a solo shot in the fifth.
Carolina’s biggest offensive jolt, though, came in the fourth. After third baseman Cooper Nicholson ripped a double down the line and right fielder Carter French (2-for-4) laced a two‑run, opposite‑side triple, his first career triple.
French, who started all three games in right field, also got an outfield assist for a double play after making a nice catch.
UNC starter Folger Boaz (4⅓ innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, 3 strikeouts) was solid. From there, the bullpen only gave up one run. Walker McDuffie and Matthew Matthijs combined for 3⅔ scoreless innings with five strikeouts. McDuffie (4–1) earned the win, already topping his total from last year’s standout freshman campaign.
UNC heads home to face UNC Greensboro at 4 p.m. Wednesday (ACC Network Extra) before hosting Louisville for a three-game series starting at 8 p.m. Friday (ACC Network).
