For the second time in four offseasons, a Stanford player is transferring to North Carolina.
Guard Chloe Clardy, who made 38% of her 3-point attempts last season for the Cardinal, is headed to UNC after averaging 12 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 steals last season as a junior, when she started 11 times.
She announced her decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter) Sunday afternoon, saying that it’s “God’s plan.”
Guard Indya Nivar, who finished her UNC career this past season, transferred from Stanford to UNC after her freshman season.
Coach Courtney Banghart continues to load up on veteran talent, now with three players with three college seasons of experience in her transfer-portal class. Friday, Oklahoma State forward Achol Akot committed to UNC and Syracuse guard Sophie Burrows announced Saturday that she would be a Tar Heel. All three visited the UNC campus this weekend.
Clardy, a graduate transfer, has scored at least 20 points five times, including pouring in 30 points on Feb. 20, 2025, at Virginia Tech in a 75–74 overtime victory. She has 11 games with at least three 3-pointers, including two with four 3s and a career-high six on Feb. 5 last season in an 86–65 victory at Pittsburgh, when she scored a season-high 26 points.
Her Stanford teams went 1–2 against the Tar Heels. She scored 15 points in UNC’s 69–67 win in Palo Alto, Calif., on Feb. 2, 2025. Last season, she had 12 points in Stanford’s 77–71 overtime win over Carolina in Carmichael Arena.
Clardy, from Conway, Ark., was a four-star recruit who played in the Jordan Brand Classic All-American game and was a two-time Gatorade Arkansas Player of the Year. She finished with more than 2,500 career points at Conway High School, scoring 20 points in her final prep game when her team won the 6A state title.
