it's a kid who's never been to the

United States. She came with one bag.

Her her parents have never been here. um

and she showed up two days after classes

started, got here after midnight, went

to an 8 a.m. math class and um is doing

really well on the court and in the

classroom. So, some kids are built

different. She's one of them.

But how did Lisa get on your radar? When

FIA has a bunch of tournaments

especially U20s, U8s, U16s whether it's

in Romania or Turkey or port or Portugal

or and we've been really aggressive at

making sure that we keep eyes on the

international space um as well as the

transfer portal as well as the high

school space. Feel like with the brand

of Carolina I owe that right to to make

sure that we've really scoured all of

our bases. But yeah, the international

you start seeing them in in those kind

of major FIA championships and then the

recruiting process begins.

yeah but I recruited Elena through uh

from Finland directly and what happened

and Grace Townsen we took as a transfer

um and so Lena was sort of made to be a

Tar Hill and finally she took a

circuitous route but she's here um yeah

it just gives you it allows you not to

give yourself a border quite frankly you

know go get the best player who fits

your needs that fits in with what we've

got um and they've been remar remarkably

low maintenance and and really grateful

and they come with a lot more basketball

experience. You know, they're not

playing AAOU and all that. They're

playing professional basketball, right?

And that's that's really been fun to

see. Speaking of talking over there

about how awesome Carmichael is as an

environment and you know how much you

love bringing the fans out, how valuable

was having those two tournament games or

spring to build that fan base. Yeah, I

think also to have what, you know, the

fact that the NCA lets you host if

you're a top 16 se is is an incredible

reward for the fan bases that have

that place you couldn't get a ticket. It

was literally jam-ful for all the games

and our, you know, there's something

different about a winner go home game

and that's so rare to have at home. Um,

and our fans just showed up and I felt

like we were giving back to a group that

had really lifted us into this light.

Smith National Coach of the Year and and

having Alyssa jump on a scoreboard after

winning, after going to the Sweet 16

after the career she had is, is got to

You don't worry about Alyssa. She's

She is good now. Alina can hoop. um

might be the best passer I've ever I've

ever been around ever seen. I mean, she

is an incredible passer. She's got um

you know, she can score at all three

levels. She's played in pro the Euro

League Euro Cup. I mean, she's she's

played against pros, so she's very

steady. She's reliable. Um she'll

contribute to that great guard group um

and be really fun to watch.

With the influx of guards and wings, how

will you play differently possibly than

last season with all the depth? Will you

be able to run more? You think more up

It's hard to run more with Alyssa out.

Um she's the best runner ever. Um but

yeah, we'll be different. You know, we

our post our best two players last year

consistently were our two posts and

neither one of them had three-point

range, right? So, we had to make sure

that they were always involved in the

action, otherwise their defender would

just sit. Um and so now we actually our

best players are actually at the

perimeter spot and so um and our post

can actually shoot it. Um and they they

can really stretch it. So, you know,

you'll have a little bit more space. You

know, there'll be more space for guards

to attack in transition where obviously

there was more of a rim runner in the

past. Um, so, you know, every year every

coach is doing it, right? You're playing

to the strengths of your best players,

right? It's that's much better than

fitting a system and getting kids that

they're not as good. I've always want

the best players and I'll figure out how

Yeah. Well, Blanca's missed a lot of

time. She's coming back from um not a

not a major deal, but she's just missed

a lot of time. So, she had a really good

summer, but she hasn't practiced in a in

it's finishing. she was got so much

better at just finishing because she's

fitter, stronger, you know, and um and

then uh Sierra's just way more

confident. She moves better. She's more

confident. She has the ball in her hands

rivalry is really special professionally

but to be able to be a part of it at

this time in women's basketball is is

know obviously only playing NC State

once this year as you're kind of trying

to again like grow that fan base. Love

the rivalry there. Um just

think we've got that the E and Nyla

Brooks and To like some of these younger

guys, they bring so much to your team

better rebounder in program history than

in Maria Gakang out of it too. You know,

those are late clock. You can throw it

to him, something's going to happen,

right? But the rebounding, the the

five-year experience of her and Grace

Townsen, the four-year starting

experience of Maria and and Lexi, that's

that's game pressure, which is why we're

playing three Final Four teams from last

year in the first month of the season.

You know, it's that we have to get as

much game pressure and not worry about

It doesn't matter. What matters is is

how much can I quickly get game pressure

so that available players become

reliable players so that we can be good

about I worry less about scoring with

this team than I did last year's team.

versatility. Um, you know, it's hard to

be Alyssa, but she's she's got a lot of

the same attributes. Um, you know, and

and she was on she was on that first

page of that scouting board every year

and I'm so happy that she's not going to

be on the Louisville scouting report

that she'll be on ours.

Speaking of the portal, you guys only

had one outgoing transfer this

offseason. How proud are you of that

of course, the experience pieces, they

just there's reliability there, right?

happen, right? And so, um she we got a

lot considering what she was going

through. Um you know, Rene is just a

dog. Like don't make me go into a big

game without Ray Kelly, right? And um

you know, the fact that she was able to

what she and Alyssa were able to do

after so much time off to beat um

Florida State in the tournament and then

what they were able to do to help us get

to a sweet 16 with you know, Mia has

been shut down since then. like we're

not messing around with her, right? And

their spirit and a lot's in there for
