Tar Heels in NFL: Ebron, Steelers move to 9-0; Hurst starts for Saints; Holcomb plays every Washington defensive snap

By R.L. Bynum

One week, it’s hurdling over a defender on the way to scoring a touchdown. Sunday, it was making a one-handed catch to convert on a third down. Tight end Eric Ebron is contributing however he can to help the Pittsburgh Steelers remain the NFL’s only undefeated team.

It wasn’t his best day, with two catches on six targets for 38 yards, but Ebron showed his versatility with that one terrific catch. The Steelers are 9-0 after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 36-10 and head to Jacksonville on Sunday to face the 1-8 Jaguars.

In that same game, Gio Bernard again started ahead of the injured Joe Mixon and finished with 47 total yards in a frustrating day for the Bengals.

The big news for offensive tackle James Hurst was getting his first start of the season and played 34% of the offensive snaps for the New Orleans Saints in their 27-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The only statistic Sylvester Williams put up in the Denver Broncos’ 37-12 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders was one assist, but his play is getting noticed.

Linebacker Cole Holcomb played every defensive snap for Washington, collecting four tackles and two assists in a loss at Detroit.

Tre Boston got two tackles, three assists and recovered a fumble for the Carolina Panthers in their loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs. He had a chance to tackle the Bucs’ Ronald Jones on a 98-yard touchdown run early in the run but couldn’t make the stop. Boston said that they knew the play was coming.
