Tar Heels in NBA: Barnes scores 30, has been the most consistently good UNC alum this season

By R.L. Bynum

Harrison Barnes continues to be the most consistent Tar Heel in the NBA so far this season and particularly stood out considering he was the only UNC alum to play in a win in the last two days.

Barnes scored a season-high 30 points to go with eight rebounds for a season-high 27.6 game score in his Sacramento Kings’ 127–122 home victory Monday night over the Indiana Pacers to end a two-game losing streak.

That was Barnes’ best scoring output since scoring 32 points in a win over Memphis on Feb. 20 of last season.

Cameron Johnson’s Phoenix Suns got blown out Monday 128–107 at Washington as he scored a season-low five points on 2 of 7 shooting with a season-low 1.3 game score.

The Orlando Magic fell to 0–3 with Cole Anthony starting at point guard in a 121–99 Monday home loss to Milwaukee. He had 12 points, three rebounds and one assist against two turnovers in the loss.

It was a long night for the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers in a 112–94 Monday loss at Atlanta. Danny Green missed all nine field-goal attempts tied his season-low with two points. Tony Bradley was a little better with six points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes.

After struggling with seven points in the New York Knicks’ 114–89 Sunday home loss to Denver, Reggie Bullock sat out Monday’s 109–88 loss at Charlotte with a sore right hip. Theo Pinson was scoreless in four minutes against the Nuggets and didn’t play against the Hornets.

Coby White dished out a career-high 13 assists Sunday as his Chicago Bulls gave the host Los Angeles Clippers a good game before losing 130–127 despite 45 points from Chicago’s Zach LaVine.

The best previous assist game for White, who played a career-high 42 minutes, was 10 in a win at Washington on New Year’s Eve. He scored nine points on 4 of 11 shooting from the floor and pulled down eight rebounds.
