Tar Heels in NBA: Barnes returns impressively but can’t stop Kings’ skid

By R.L. Bynum

After missing three games with a left foot strain, Harrison Barnes came back impressively, scoring nine of his 18 points in the second quarter and making his first five shots.

Unfortunately for the Sacramento Kings, his return wasn’t enough to stop their losing streak that became a season-high eight games with a 127–118 road loss to the Brooklyn Nets. It was a one-point game with seven minutes left before the high-flying Nets pulled away.

“I’m feeling all right. It was good to get back out with the guys. I still got a little bit a ways to go to feeling back to normal but I was able to try to help a little bit,” Barnes said. “Now, it’s more pain tolerance.”

Barnes tried to play through it in the Feb. 15 home game against Brooklyn but the team decided that rest was all that would help for him after that.

Barnes’ 11.5 game score was his best since he put up a 26.3 in his 28-point game on Feb. 6 against Denver.

Danny Green had 11 points, three 3-pointers, five rebounds, two assists and three steals in Philadelphia’s 109–102 road win over Toronto. With a 9.4 game score, he’s had three consecutive games with a game score of at least nine for the second time this season (9.3 on Sunday vs. Toronto and 10.1 Friday vs. Chicago). He put up 10.9 (vs. Charlotte), 12.3 (vs. Charlotte) and 14.6 (vs. Washington) in games Jan. 2 through Jan. 6.

For the fifth consecutive game and eighth in the last nine, Tony Bradley didn’t play for the Sixers.

Reggie Bullock collected seven points and four rebounds in 19 minutes of New York’s 114–106 home loss to Golden State. Theo Pinson didn’t play for the Knicks for the fourth consecutive game and 11th in the last 12.

The Minnesota Timberwolves changed coaches, but the playing time for Ed Davis didn’t change. In the first game with Chris Finch as their coach, Davis didn’t play for the eighth consecutive game. Minnesota lost his debut 139–112 at Milwaukee.

A night after scoring 18 points, all in the fourth quarter, Nassir Little was scoreless in 14 minutes during Portland’s 111–106 loss at Denver.
