Pinson scores season-high 30 in G League, Ellington nets season-high 15 for Lakers, both notch five 3-pointers

By R.L. Bynum

Theo Pinson had quite an efficient G League game Sunday in the Maine Celtics’ 113–108 home victory over the Delaware Blue Coats.

He scored a season-high 30 points in 34 minutes, shooting 12 of 18 from the floor and 5 of 7 from 3-point range.

That wasn’t his career-high in that league. Pinson scored 43 points for the Long Island Nets on Jan. 10, 2019, against Maine (then known as the Red Claws).

Maine (3–1) came back from a 91–83 fourth-quarter deficit with a Pinson 3-pointer beginning the rally.

There are no murmurs from home crowds anymore when Pinson puts up a perimeter shot. Through four games, he’s shooting 52% from the floor, 47.8% from 3-point range and 90% from the free-throw line.

Wayne Ellington had the best game of his six this season for the Los Angeles Lakers, with 15 points, five 3-pointers, two assists, a steal and a 13.4 game score in their 114–106 home win over San Antonio.

He’s still trying to find his rhythm after missing the first eight games with a hamstring injury and figuring out his role on the team.

“Still finding it,” Ellington said. “It’s a process. The past few games, I feel like I’ve been more aggressive, and guys have been looking for me more.”

In Portland’s 124–95 loss at Denver, Nassir Little scored a season-high 13 points for a second consecutive game. Little had seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.

Cameron Johnson scored 10 points to give him two consecutive double-figure scoring games for the first time this season. He also had six rebounds, an assist and two steals in Phoenix’s 115–89 victory at Houston.

With his two 3-pointers, Johnson passed Jeff Hornacek for 22nd on the Suns’ all-time 3-pointers list with 241.

In the Chicago Bulls’ 100–90 win at the Los Angeles Clippers, Tony Bradley had four points and five rebounds in 23 minutes and Coby White wasn’t active. White, who has recovered from offseason shoulder surgery, was cleared to make his season debut Monday night in a road game with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Day’Ron Sharpe missed Brooklyn’s 120–96 win at Oklahoma City for what the team called personal reasons. Coach Steve Nash said that he’s pretty sure that Sharpe will be back for Tuesday’s home game against Golden State (TNT).
