Tar Heels in NBA: Impressive games for Little, Sharpe; Jackson puts up big numbers in G League return; Green, Johnson hurt

By R.L. Bynum

On a weekend with injuries to two UNC alums, Nassir Little and Day’Ron Sharpe put up big games as starters and Justin Jackson was back in the G League showing why he shouldn’t be there.

Little scored 14 points in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 140–108 Thursday loss at Denver and contributed 18 in their 115–110 Saturday victory at Washington. Little has started his last 16 games after combining to start seven in his first two seasons.

Sharpe started in two more games for the Brooklyn Nets and has started in three consecutive games. He had four points and six rebounds in Thursday’s 130–109 home loss to Oklahoma City but rebounded with his first NBA double-double on Saturday, with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the Nets’ 120–105 home win over New Orleans.

After Jackson’s 10-day contract with the Phoenix Suns expired, he returned to the Dallas Maverick’s G League team, the Texas Legends. He had been playing with the Legends before signing a 10-day December contract with the Boston Celtics.

Jackson collected 23 points and eight rebounds in Friday’s home win over the Santa Cruz Warriors and 30 points and nine rebounds in Saturday’s win over Santa Cruz. He combined to go 11 of 26 from 3-point range in the two games.

Theo Pinson, who is on a two-way contract with the Mavericks, wasn’t active but was on the Legends’ roster for both games.

Harrison Barnes collected 16 points, nine rebounds and six assists in Sacramento’s 126–114 Friday home victory over Houston for the Kings’ second consecutive win.

Danny Green and Cameron Johnson both missed weekend games with injuries. Green was out for Philadelphia’s wins Friday vs. Boston and Saturday at Miami with a hip injury. Johnson didn’t play in Phoenix’s Friday win at Indiana and has missed two consecutive games with a left ankle sprain. He is also listed as out for Sunday afternoon’s game at Detroit.

Coby White keeps playing well off the bench for the Chicago Bulls even if they are on a bad stretch. White scored 20 points in their 138–97 Friday loss to Golden State and 19 points in their 114–112 Saturday loss to Boston as Chicago has lost three consecutive games.

Tony Bradley had two points Friday and six points Saturday.

Reggie Bullock had four points and three assists in Dallas’ win over the Magic after contributing 10 points and five rebounds in the Mavericks’ 112–95 Friday win at Memphis.
