Tar Heels in NBA: Barnes, White, Johnson have big nights in road losses; Barnes mentioned in trade rumors

By R.L. Bynum

Harrison Barnes, Coby White and Cameron Johnson all had outstanding games on Thursday but they all came in road losses.

Barnes collected 25 points, five rebounds and three assists as Sacramento lost to Golden State 116–114 in the second game of playing on back-to-back nights. He put up 19 points in a home win over Brooklyn the night before.

Barnes’ 21.7 game score was his eighth of at least 20 in 49 games this season after doing that 14 times in 78 games last season.

With the NBA trade deadline coming up next Thursday, Barnes’ name is again coming up in trade rumors.

According to Michael Scotto of USA Today, the word from league executives is that Sacramento wants at least a first-round draft pick in return. Among the teams interested in Barnes, according to Scotto, are Utah, Boston and New Orleans.

White scored 16 points off the bench in 22 minutes, but the Chicago Bulls lost 127–120 to the Toronto Raptors for their seventh loss in the last eight road games.

White was 4 of 8 from 3-point range and has at least four 3-pointers in nine of 33 games. He did that in 19 of 69 games last season.

Tony Bradley was scoreless with three rebounds and two blocks in 10 minutes.

The Bulls (32–19) fell into a tie for the Eastern Conference lead with the Miami Heat.

Cameron Johnson had 13 points, three 3-pointers, eight rebounds and two steals in the Phoenix Suns’ 124–115 loss to Atlanta to snap their 11-game win streak. It was the 23rd time in 48 games with at least three 3-pointers for Johnson after doing it 20 times in 60 games last season.

The Suns (41–10) still have the league’s best record by two games over Golden State.

Justin Jackson didn’t play in his first game since signing his second 10-day contract with Phoenix.

For the seventh time in 10 games, Wayne Ellington didn’t get off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers.
