Tar Heels in NBA: Barnes, Anthony play well in victories but Anthony hates needles

By R.L. Bynum

Harrison Barnes and Cole Anthony each have had plenty of nice games this season but, with their teams struggling, the wins haven’t come that often. Both played well in Monday night victories.

Barnes collected 23 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals while going 10 of 11 from the free-throw line in Sacramento’s 131–110 win at Oklahoma City that snapped a four-game losing streak. He was +23 for the game, which was his 21st game with at least 20 points this season, but only the ninth win in those games.

The Kings (23–40, 13th in the Western Conference) tied the game at halftime on Barnes’ fadeaway jumper with 1.6 seconds left in the first half.

Barnes put up a game score of 20.3 in the victory. The Kings have won only half of his 12 games with a game score of at least 20 this season. He had a game score of at least 20 14 times last season and Sacramento only won half of those games.

Anthony had 11 points, three rebounds and three assists and was +20 as Orlando earned a 119–103 win at Indiana. The Magic was aided by the return of Markelle Fultz, who scored 10 points in his first game in 14 months after tearing his left ACL.

For a guy who has likely dealt with a lot of needles considering the number of tattoos on his body, Anthony wasn’t excited about taking a needle for a blood test. That led to a good bit of social media buzz because Fultz held Anthony while he got that test.

Orlando is 15–47 with the NBA’s worst record but has won back-to-back games for the first time since late January.

Day’Ron Sharpe collected nine points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes of Brooklyn’s 133–97 home loss to Toronto.

Coby White had nine points, four rebounds and six assists off the bench in Chicago’s 112–99 loss at Miami. Tony Bradley contributed four points and three rebounds in five minutes for the Bulls.

The battle of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference left Miami (41–21) with a two-game lead on Chicago (39–23).
