Tar Heels in NBA: Johnson to miss Suns game; Anthony scores 19; Green has four steals

By R.L. Bynum

If you were looking forward to watching Cameron Johnson on national TV Sunday after his career-best game on Friday night, that unfortunately won’t happen.

Johnson had 38 points and nine 3-pointers off the bench in Phoenix’s 115–114 home victory Friday over New York and banked in a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. But he’ll miss the Suns’ 3:30 Sunday game at Milwaukee (ABC) with a contusion to his right quad and didn’t even travel with the team to Wisconsin.

The injuries are piling up for the league-leading Suns, who will also be without Devin Booker (health-and-safety protocols), Chris Paul (right thumb fracture), Frank Kaminsky (right knee injury) and Dario Saric (right ACL tear.)

It was another long night for the Orlando Magic in a 124–96 loss Saturday at Memphis, but Cole Anthony had a solid game with 19 points, four 3-pointers, three rebounds, four assists and a block.

It was Anthony’s first game with at least four 3-pointers since Dec. 12 and the 10th such game this season. He was 4 of 6 from 3-point range against the Grizzlies after making only 6 of his previous 36 attempts.

Reggie Bullock scored 11 points in a game-high 41½ minutes as Dallas rallied from a 19-point deficit to earn a 114–113 home win over Sacramento.

Harrison Barnes had a chance to tie in the final seconds with a 30-foot 3-point attempt, but it rimmed out and the Kings’ Justin Holiday converted a follow shot for the game’s final points.

Barnes finished with nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. That snapped a streak of six games scoring at least 14 points.

In Philadelphia’s 99–82 loss at Miami, Danny Green had six points, three rebounds and four steals in 20 minutes off the bench. It was Green’s fourth game this season with at least four steals.

Wayne Ellington didn’t play (coach’s decision) in the Los Angeles Lakers’ 124–116 home win over Golden State. That’s the ninth time in the last 13 games that he hasn’t played.
