What did Hubert Davis say about the handshake-line snub?

By R.L. Bynum

There has been a lot of talk about Duke assistant coach Chris Carrawell snubbing UNC coach Hubert Davis in the handshake line after Saturday’s game.

There were also suggestions from the Duke side that it was because Davis didn’t shake hands with the assistant coaches before Carolina’s historic 94–81 victory to ruin Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s final Cameron Indoor Stadium game.

When asked about the situation Tuesday during a press availability, Davis didn’t get into specifics and wouldn’t comment on what happened. But he said that he’s talked with Carrawell and Jon Scheyer, the head coach next season, since the game.

“I had two great conversations with both of them,” Davis said. “My relationship with Coach K and the rest of the coaching staff before the game was in a great spot and it’s in a great spot right now. And I really enjoyed my conversations with Jon and also Chris and, at the end of our conversations, we both wished each other luck for the remainder of the season.”

Both teams open play in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals at Brooklyn on Thursday, with No. 1-seed and No. 7-ranked Duke meeting either No. 8-seed Florida State or No. 9 Syracuse at noon. No. 3-seed and No. 25-ranked Carolina plays at 9:30 p.m. against either No. 6-seed Virginia or No. 11-seed Louisville.
