Tar Heels in NBA: Anthony has efficient all-around game as Magic tops Pelicans; Barnes hits 17

By R.L. Bynum

It’s been a challenging season for Orlando but the Magic have hit a nice stretch with four wins in the last seven games with the help of Cole Anthony.

Anthony scored 19 points and three 3-pointers with five assists in 24 efficient minutes Wednesday night as Orlando held on at home to beat New Orleans 108–99 on Wednesday night.

His 17.1 game score gave him 16 games with at least a score of 17 this season after doing that only twice during his rookie season.

The win ended a two-game losing streak as Orlando (17–55) rebounded from a 102–99 Tuesday home loss to Phoenix in which Anthony had 11 points, three rebounds and five assists.

“We did a pretty good job of just defending as a team,” Anthony said of the New Orleans victory. “We were all locked in. We were all tied together on a string. … And at the same time we were getting stops, we turned it into easy offense.”

Harrison Barnes scored 17 points and three 3-pointers with five rebounds and five assists in Sacramento’s 106100 home loss Wednesday to Denver. The Kings (2444)have lost six of their eight games since the All-Star break.

Coby White had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes off the bench in Chicago’s 114–108 win at Detroit. Tony Bradley didn’t play for the fifth time in the last seven games.

The Bulls (40–26) are fourth in the Eastern Conference.

Reggie Bullock was scoreless for the seventh time this season, missing eight 3-point attempts, with seven rebounds and two assists in Dallas’ 107–77 home loss to the Knicks. Bullock’s -1.8 game score was his 11th negative game score of the season but first since Dec. 15, which is also his last previous scoreless game.

Ed Davis had four points and three rebounds in 10 minutes of Cleveland’s 127–124 Tuesday win at Indiana. Davis has played in back-to-back games for only the fourth time since Dec. 3.

In the G League on Wednesday afternoon, Day’Ron Sharpe collected 15 points, three 3-pointers, eight rebounds and three assists as his Long Island Nets’ 96–89 home loss to Grand Rapids (Nuggets affiliate).
