Tar Heels in pros: Bullock returns to score 18, hit key 3; Sharpe, Jackson have big G League games

By R.L. Bynum

Reggie Bullock returned after missing four games because of personal reasons but showed no rust from the break.

Bullock scored 18 points and six 3-pointers, including a clutch 3 late in the game, as the Dallas Mavericks earned a 110–108 home victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Bullock also had seven rebounds as the Mavs avoided their first three-game losing streak since December.

Bullock’s corner 3-pointer with 41.7 seconds left gave Dallas a five-point lead.

The Mavericks’ Theo Pinson hasn’t played since Feb. 8, but shared happy news last week, announcing the birth of his daughter, Alana Capri Pinson.

Harrison Barnes has had extremely contrasting games in the past few days.

He went scoreless for the first time this season in Sacramento’s 126–97 Friday home loss to Boston. In 24 minutes, he missed all five shots and had two rebounds and an assist. It was his first scoreless game since Nov. 23, 2014, for Golden State against Oklahoma City on another 0-of-5 night.

Barnes rebounded in Sunday’s 127–124 home loss to Phoenix with 21 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Cameron Johnson missed that Suns win, and has been out for nine consecutive games while recovering from a right quad contusion.

Cole Anthony dished out seven assists in each of his last two games, going from scoring 12 points and five rebounds in Thursday’s 134–120 home loss to Detroit to six points in Sunday’s 90–84 home win over Oklahoma City.

In the G League, Day’Ron Sharpe has been outstanding in two G League games this week, both road losses for his Long Island Nets against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (the Pacers’ affiliate).

In Sunday’s 128–123 loss, he collected 22 points, 19 rebounds and four blocks. In Monday’s 100–80 defeat, he had 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and three steals.

In 2022 G League games, Sharpe is averaging a double-double with 19.8 points and 13.7 rebounds.

Justin Jackson also has put up big numbers in his last two G League games. He collected 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the Texas Legends’ 114–107 Thursday win at the Agua Caliente Clippers and 24 points, four rebounds and three assists in Sunday’s 122–110 win at the South Bay Lakers.

Coby White had 14 points in Chicago’s 129–122 Friday loss at Phoenix but only scored two points in 13 minutes in Monday’s 113–99 Bulls home win over Toronto. Tony Bradley had two points and two rebounds in five minutes against the Suns and a point and a rebound in one minute against the Raptors.

Danny Green continues to come off the bench for Philadelphia and hasn’t put up good numbers of late.

Green had three points in Friday’s 111–101 home win over Dallas and in Sunday’s 93–88 home loss to Toronto, then scored six in Monday’s 113–106 home win against Miami. He hasn’t scored in double digits since getting 11 points on Jan. 29 against Sacramento, which is his last game with more than two 3-pointers.

Ed Davis and Wayne Ellington continue to play sparingly.

After not playing in Cleveland’s previous two games, Davis was scoreless with a rebound in one minute of Monday’s 131–120 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Ellington, who missed the Lakers’ Friday and Saturday games with an illness that wasn’t COVID-19 related, didn’t play against the Cavaliers (coach’s decision.)
