Tar Heels in pros: Anthony earns ninth double-double of season; Jackson hits 19 in G League

By R.L. Bynum

Cole Anthony has put together a run of good games of late, including his ninth double-double of the season.

After scoring 14 points Tuesday in the Orlando Magic’s 94–90 home win over the Golden State Warriors, Anthony collected 17 points and tied his career-high with 11 assists in a 118–112 loss Wednesday at Oklahoma City.

He’s scored in double figures in 13 of his last 14 games. His 17.9 game score against the Thunder was his highest since a 19.1 in a 23-point game at Portland on Feb. 8 and his 17th game this season with a game score of at least 17. He had two such games last season.

Orlando (20–54) needed a big night from Anthony against the Thunder with Jalen Suggs (ankle) and Wendell Carter Jr. (left wrist and ankle) out with injuries and Markelle Fultz resting.

Anthony had no double-doubles or double-digit assists games during his rookie season but Wednesday’s game was his fourth 11-assist game this season, all in double-double efforts.

The other three double-doubles with 11 assists were when he scored 29 on Nov. 15 at Atlanta, 22 vs. New Orleans on Dec. 23 and 19 vs. the Los Angeles Clippers on Jan. 26. Anthony has five other double-doubles with rebounds as one element.

In the Thunder loss, Anthony passed Rashard Lewis for 25th on the all-time Magic’s all-time assist list with 541.

Harrison Barnes contributed 11 points, five assists and two steals in Sacramento’s 110–109 Wednesday victory at Indiana. The Kings (26–48) are five games back of New Orleans for the last Western Conference play-in tournament spot.

Starting the 15th consecutive Dallas game he’s played, Reggie Bullock had five points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. In his second game back after missing four games for personal reasons, the host Mavericks beat Houston 110–91.

In Philadelphia’s 126–121 road win Wednesday over the Los Angeles Lakers, Danny Green was scoreless for the eighth time this season with a rebound and a block.

When he started 69 games last season, he was scoreless only once. Green hasn’t been in the starting lineup since Feb. 15 and has started only 25 times this season.

Wayne Ellington didn’t play (coach’s decision) for the Lakers. He hasn’t played in the last four games and eight of the last 11.

In Chicago’s 126–98 Tuesday loss at Milwaukee, Coby White had five points, two assists and two steals in 23 minutes off the bench and Tony Bradley didn’t play (coach’s decision).

In the G League on Tuesday night, Justin Jackson collected 19 points, three rebounds, five assists and a block in his Texas Legends’ 113–112 road win over the South Bay Lakers.
