UNC soars near top of final coaches poll

After North Carolina’s amazing NCAA tournament run, the Tar Heels soared to No. 2 in the final Top 25 coaches poll.

The Tar Heels (29–10) lost 72–69 Monday night in the NCAA championship game to Kansas (34–6), which is No. 1 in the final coaches poll.

UNC hadn’t been ranked in the coaches poll since it was No. 20 in the preseason poll. In the AP poll, Carolina was No. 19 in the preseason poll, No. 18 on Nov. 15 and No. 25 in the final poll on March 7.

Duke, No. 10 in the last regular-season poll, is No. 3 in the final coaches poll after losing to UNC 81–77 in the second national semifinal on Saturday. Villanova, which lost to Kansas in the first semifinal 81–65, is No. 4.

Miami made the final coaches poll at No. 16 after not being ranked in the final regular-season poll, giving the ACC three teams in the final coaches poll.
