Ustby makes All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team for second consecutive year

By R.L. Bynum

Not only is Carolina’s Alyssa Ustby a versatile basketball player who can punt, pass and kick a football, but she’s also a good student.

For the second consecutive year, the rising junior from Rochester, Minn., was named to the All-ACC Women’s Basketball Academic Team. The honor came Tuesday, days after she won the UNC punt, pass and kick competition and kicked a 35-yard field goal at Kenan Stadium at halftime of the spring football game.

Ustby, who hasn’t declared a major, is the lone Tar Heel in the group of 22 players who earned a 3.0 grade point average in their previous semester and have a 3.0 cumulative average over their academic career.

During the last school year, Ustby was also named to the ACC Academic Honor roll for the 2020–21 school year. This school year’s list will be announced in July.

Ustby, who made All-ACC second team, led the 25–7 Tar Heels and was fourth in the ACC in rebounding with 8.6 per game. She was second on the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game and was second in the league with 13 double-doubles.
