In an apparent nod to Coach Hubert Davis’ energetic halftime interview during UNC’s Final Four semifinals victory over Duke, the preseason event this year will be called “Live Action with Carolina Basketball,” and is set for Friday, Sept. 30.
For years, the event has not occurred all that late in the evening, so no longer calling it “Late Night” makes sense.
Fans can enter the Smith Center at 6 p.m. for the free event, which starts at 7:30 p.m. It will occur the night before Carolina’s football homecoming game with Pittsburgh.
Brian “B-Daht” McLaughlin, the game day host last season, will be the emcee for the evening, which will include player and staff introductions, a combined 3-point shooting contest and intrasquad scrimmages for the women’s and men’s basketball teams, who both return four starters.
Davis’ men’s team went 29–10 last season and made the NCAA championship game. UNC finished the season No. 2 in the final coaches poll and is No. 1 in Blue Ribbon Magazine’s preseason ranking.

Coach Courtney Banghart’s women’s team made the Sweet 16 last season and finished 25–7, falling to eventual national champion South Carolina in the Gamecocks’ toughest NCAA tournament game. Carolina’s women are also expected to be highly ranked in the preseason polls.
