Six UNC men’s games start at 9 or later; there is a morning start

By R.L. Bynum

There was a lot of bad news for Tar Heels fans who hate late games with the announcement Wednesday of all Carolina men’s basketball starting times. But there also is a game that starts late on a Saturday morning.

Six games will start at 9 p.m. or later, starting with the 9 p.m. Nov. 7 opener against UNC Wilmington.

The number of late games probably has something to do with the Tar Heels’ likely high preseason ranking and expectations. There were only three games that started at 9 p.m. or later last season.

The game against the Seahawks is the second part of an opening-night ACC Network doubleheader that begins with the Jacksonville at Duke game that airs at 7 p.m.

The other late starts are the 9:15 ACC/Big Ten Challenge game at Indiana on Nov. 30, the 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4 home game against Wake Forest, the 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10 game at Virginia, the 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24 game at Syracuse and the 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 game at Notre Dame.

In a first, the Saturday, Jan. 7 home game against Notre Dame will start at 11:30 a.m.

The first game against Duke in Durham on Feb. 5 will start at 6:30 p.m.

Carolina’s other November home games are against College of Charleston at 7 p.m. (regional sports networks) on Friday, Nov. 11, against Gardner-Webb at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 (ACC Network), and vs. James Madison at noon Sunday, Nov. 20 (ACC Network).

Carolina’s ACC opener at Virginia Tech on Sunday, Dec. 4, will start at 3 p.m. (ACC Network).

The only game that doesn’t have at least a possible start time is the visit to Pittsburgh on Dec. 30 or Dec. 31.

You can see the complete ACC composite schedule here.

UNC has added 6–9 junior forward Beau Maye of Huntersville, one of Luke’s brothers, to the roster as a walk-on. He nearly headed to play for Emory & Henry after his freshman year at Carolina before deciding to stay in Chapel Hill after suffering a knee injury.
