Tar Heels’ rank in AP Top 25 women’s poll unchanged

By R.L. Bynum

North Carolina stayed at No. 22 in the latest AP Top 25 women’s poll even after the Tar Heels’ 60–50 upset of then-No. 4 Notre Dame on Sunday, likely because of a loss to unranked Miami.

The Tar Heels (10–5, 1–3 ACC) rebounded from Thursday’s heartbreaking 62–58 loss at Miami to hand the Irish only their second loss of the season and snap a four-game losing streak behind 16 points from freshman guard Paulina Paris.

Notre Dame (12–2, 3–1) fell three spots to No. 7.

UNC is No. 24 in the NET ranking, which the NCAA tournament committee uses as a consideration when seeding teams.

Carolina goes back on the road Thursday to meet Virginia (13–3, 2–3), which lost last week to then-No. 9 Virginia Tech 74–66 and then-No. 10 N.C. State 87–62.

The Hokies (13–3, 3–3) fell to No. 13 after their 77–66 loss to Miami and the Wolfpack (13–4, 3–3) dropped to No. 11 after their 79–71 home defeat against Boston College. State visits Carolina on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. (ESPN).

League-leading Duke (14–1, 4–0), which debuted in the poll last week at No. 19, moved up to No. 16 after a 60–50 victory over Wake Forest.
