Brady Manek showed NBA scouts what Carolina fans know well — that he is a dangerous perimeter shooter.

In his first game playing for the Atlanta Hawks’ Summer League team, Manek scored 17 points and five 3-pointers, both team-highs, in the Hawks’ 80–76 loss Friday to the Sacramento Kings in Atlanta’s opener.

Manek was 6 of 11 from the floor and 5 of 10 from 3-point range in 18½ minutes off the bench, scoring nearly a point a minute.

Last year, Manek played five games in the Summer League for the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 14½ minutes in five games and scoring 35 points.

After being unable to earn an NBA contract, Manek averaged 27.5 minutes, 12.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 46% from the floor and hitting 40.7% of his 3-point attempts in 28 games for the Perth Wildcats in the National Basketball League in Australia.

After the Australian season, Manek played 11 games for Tofas Bursa in the Turkish Basketball Super League, averaging 33 minutes, 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 42% from the floor and 34.9% from outside the arc.

Garrison Brooks, who spent last season playing for the New York Knicks’ G League team in Westchester, collected nine points, three rebounds, two assists and a block playing for New Orleans in the Pelicans’ 102–88 loss to Minnesota. Brooks played 15 minutes, 45 seconds in the game.

Pete Nance played 16:21 in Cleveland’s 101–97 win over Brooklyn, collecting five points, two rebounds and a steal.

For the second consecutive Charlotte Hornets game, Leaky Black didn’t play (coach’s decision.) Black was scoreless in nearly 17 minutes in their Monday 98–77 loss to San Antonio. The Hornets lost Friday to Golden State 98–83.
