Bullock reportedly headed to Houston

Reggie Bullock will reportedly keep his game in Texas.

Three days after the San Antonio Spurs bought out the 32-year-old guard’s contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that, according to sources, Bullock will sign with the Houston Rockets after clearing waivers.

Bullock, who has one of the better combinations of perimeter shooting and defense in the NBA, will likely compete for playing time at shooting guard with Jalen Green, who enters his third season with the Rockets. Bullock fills a spot left after Houston dropped Kevin Porter Jr., who faces charges of domestic assault and strangulation.

Houston had a rough time last season, finishing 14th out of 15 teams in the Western Conference with a 22–60 record. The Rockets fired Stephen Silas as head coach after last season and hired former Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka.

Charania had reported last week that championship contenders were interested in Bullock, but he’s had to settle for playing with a rebuilding team that’s coming off three consecutive losing seasons. The Rockets have struggled since they traded James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets in January 2021.

Bullock, a 10-year veteran, has one year left on a three-year contract. He played the last two seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, who traded him to San Antonio on July 12 as part of a three-team deal that sent Grant Williams from Boston to Dallas.

Bullock averaged 7.2 points in 78 games last season, his lowest since the 2018–19 season, shooting 38% from 3-point range.

The Los Angeles Clippers drafted Bullock in the first round as the 25th overall pick in the 2013 draft. After one full season with the Clippers, they traded him to Phoenix in January 2015.

The Suns dealt Bullock in July 2015 to Detroit, where he played four seasons before the Pistons traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2019. He signed with the New York Knicks in July 2019 and, after two seasons there, signed with Dallas in August 2021.

Bullock, who will earn $10,489,600 this season, averaged 9.9 points and shot 38.7% from 3-point range over his three-season, 100-game Carolina career from 2010 to 2013. He scored a career-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers, on Jan. 19, 2013, in a 62–52 home victory against Maryland.
