UNC’s closed scrimmage at No. 10 Florida Atlantic reportedly went well

By R.L. Bynum

The No. 19 Carolina men’s basketball team played No. 10 Florida Atlantic in a closed scrimmage Saturday in Boca Raton, Fla., and it reportedly went well for the Tar Heels.

Eric Bossi of 247 Sports reported that, according to a source, Carolina won 79–63 against the Owls, who made a run to the Final Four last season, finished 35–4 and return all five starters. Bossi also reported that FAU senior guard Alijah Martin didn’t play.

Jeff Goodman reported that the “Tar Heels were dominant,” “RJ Davis was terrific” and “Jalen Washington and Elliot Cadeau played well for UNC.”

Dominating a top-10 team would suggest that Coach Hubert Davis’ radically redesigned roster is coming together and looking good heading into the season.

UNC’s official men’s basketball X (formerly known as Twitter) account tweeted photos of the team on Thursday as they were at the airport preparing to fly to South Florida and tweeted photos from their Friday practice in the Miami area.

Carolina and Florida Atlantic play in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 5, with the Owls meeting No. 25 Illinois at 6:30 p.m. and the Tar Heels facing reigning national champion and No. 6 UConn at 9 p.m.

The Tar Heel Tribune Facebook group moved to a new location. Follow the page at this link so that you don’t miss any UNC sports coverage.

You can watch UNC and know the results on top of that on Friday when the Tar Heels play St. Augustine’s in an exhibition game at the Smith Center at 7:30 p.m. (ESPN3).

UNC opens the season at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6 at home against Radford (ACC Network).
