Cole Anthony and Coby White each had solid games Friday night as the Orlando Magic moved to 2–0 and the Chicago Bulls rebounded from a tough opening-game loss.
Anthony came off the bench with an efficient night, scoring 18 points and three 3-pointers with four rebounds and two assists in only 28 minutes as Orlando won at Portland 102–97 in the first game of a four-game western road trip.
The Trail Blazers had pulled within a point when Anthony fired in a 3-pointer with 10:14 left to put Orlando ahead 86–82, and Portland never came any closer the rest of the way.
White started and played 40 minutes, contributing 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists with only three turnovers as the Bulls earned a wild 104–103 overtime home victory over Toronto.
Alex Caruso’s 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left in overtime won it for Chicago, with DeMar DeRozan scoring 33 points.
The Bulls had a players-only meeting after their 124–104 opening-night loss Wednesday at home against Oklahoma City.
After scoring 33 points in Sacramento’s opening-game win at Utah, Harrison Barnes didn’t miss on five shots on Friday but finished with only 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and a steal in the Kings’ 122–114 home loss to Golden State.
Cameron Johnson missed Brooklyn’s 125–120 Friday home loss to Dallas with a left calf contusion. Day’Ron Sharpe had two points, four rebounds and a steal in three minutes for the Nets.
Reggie Bullock was scoreless with three rebounds in 22 minutes of Houston’s 126–122 Friday overtime loss at San Antonio, only attempting one shot (a 3-pointer).
Walker Kessler had seven points and four rebounds in 21 minutes of the Utah Jazz’s 120–118 Friday road win against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Danny Green was scoreless in 14 minutes with one shot (a 3-pointer), two rebounds, an assist and a steal in Philadelphia’s opening-game 117–117 loss Thursday in Milwaukee.
Nassir Little had two points in 13 minutes with two rebounds, a steal and a block in his Phoenix Suns debut, a 100–95 Thursday road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
For the second consecutive Charlotte Hornets game, a 111–99 home Friday loss to Detroit, Leaky Black didn’t play (coach’s decision).
