Cole Anthony scored nearly a point a minute while pouring in 30 points to lead Orlando to its seventh consecutive victory Sunday. Chicago’s Coby White had a big game but in a loss to Cam Johnson, Day’Ron Sharpe and Brooklyn.
Anthony, who also had seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 32 minutes, was 9 of 17 from the floor and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line and scored 17 points in the fourth quarter of Orlando’s 130–117 home victory over Charlotte.
“It wasn’t our best start, it wasn’t our best game, but you can’t be mad about a win in the NBA,” Anthony said. “We’ve got to approach everything the exact same away. We’ve set a standard for ourselves and we need to maintain that standard.”
Orlando led 95–92 in the fourth quarter when Anthony drove for a three-point play, then stole a pass to set up two Franz Wagner free throws (he also scored 30 points), then assisted on a Paolo Banchero jumper. The Hornets never got closer than five after that.
Orlando is 12–5, only one game back of Boston for the Eastern Conference lead.
In the first game after Charlotte called Leaky Black up to the Hornets’ roster, he didn’t play (coach’s decision.)
Coby White scored 23 points and five 3-pointers and had five rebounds, four assists and a block, but it wasn’t enough for Chicago in a 118–109 Sunday loss at Brooklyn, which scored an NBA season-high 25 3-pointers.
Cam Johnson had 10 points, four rebounds and six assists in 22 minutes for the Nets, who got nine points, nine rebounds, three assists and a block from Day’Ron Sharpe.
After back-to-back wins, Brooklyn is 8–8 and 10th in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls have lost four straight and are 13th in the Eastern Conference at 5–13.
In Phoenix’s 116–113 Sunday win at New York, Nassir Little had 11 points, two rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes off the bench.
