Tar Heels in NBA: White scores 23, hits huge 3s, in Bulls’ OT victory over Bucks

By R.L. Bynum

Without two of Chicago’s best players, Coby White came up with the clutch shots the Bulls needed to pull off an upset Thursday night.

White scored 23 points and four 3-pointers, with seven assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block, as the Bulls pulled away in overtime for a 120–113 home victory over the Milwaukee Bucks to snap a five-game losing streak.

The win came despite playing without Zach LaVine (sore right foot) and DeMar DeRozan (sprained left ankle).

After White’s 3-pointer at the third quarter buzzer tied it at 80, the Bulls scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter and led by as many as 12. Chicago went ahead 103–96 on White’s step-back 3-pointer as the shot clock was expiring with 1:26 left in regulation.

After a jumper by Chicago’s Alex Caruso forced overtime, the Bulls took control in the extra period. White buried another step-back 3-pointer with 3:36 left and split a pair of free throws with 8.7 seconds remaining.

White, who played 45 minutes, has scored a season-high 23 points in three of the last five games for Chicago (6–14), which got only its second victory since Nov. 12.

Brooklyn’s three-game win streak ended Thursday with a 129–128 home loss to Charlotte. Cameron Johnson missed a 3-point attempt that would have won it with 2.1 seconds left.
