DeMar DeRozan and Coby White did everything they could to extend the Chicago Bulls’ win streak to five but came up short in overtime at Milwaukee on Monday night.
In the Bulls’ 133–129 loss, DeRozan — with 41 points and 11 assists — became the second Bull with at least 40 points and 10 assists in a game, joining Michael Jordan, who did it nine times.
White, continuing to make a case for his first All-Star Game appearance, stayed hot with a season-high 33 points, making 6 of 10 3-point attempts to extend his franchise record of consecutive games with at least three 3-pointers to 11 games. He has 53 3-pointers during that stretch and is now in the top five in the league in 3-pointers.
White’s pull-up 25-foot 3-pointer with 2:35 left in regulation pulled Chicago within two. White didn’t attempt another 3-pointer from the 1:36 mark of regulation until his step-back 3 with four seconds left in overtime cut Chicago’s deficit to four.
He put up a 25.8 game score, this third game score of at least 20 in the last four games. He had three total game scores of at least 20 each of the last two seasons after putting up six such games in the 2020–21 season and four in his rookie season (2019–20).
White, who played a career-high 45 minutes, has scored at least 20 points in five of the last seven games, averaging 26 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.6 assists while shooting 50% from the floor, 54% from 3-point range and making 84% of his free-throw attempts in the last five games.
White’s only two better scoring games in his NBA career were when he scored 36 points at Sacramento on Jan. 6, 2021, and 35 against Oklahoma City on Feb. 25, 2020. It was his third 33-point game, also doing it on successive nights, Feb. 22, 2020, vs. Phoenix and Feb. 23, 2020, against Washington.
In the G League, Justin Jackson scored 35 points and seven 3-pointers Sunday in the Texas Legends’ 115–111 home victory over Austin, hitting the game-clinching 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds left.
Jackson was 10 of 15 from the floor and 7 of 8 from 3-point range with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Theo Pinson also had a good game, with 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. He scored or assisted on the Legends’ final seven points.
Tony Bradley, who had been battling a calf injury, made his season debut in the game for the Legends, contributing four points, four rebounds and a block.
In the Legends’ Tuesday afternoon 124–120 home loss to Rio Grande, Pinson narrowly missed a triple-double with 15 points, 13 assists, nine rebounds and three steals. Jackson had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Bradley contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Cameron Johnson scored 15 points and Harrison Barnes 14 points, but Barnes’ host Sacramento Kings scored a franchise-record 25 3-pointers in a 131–118 victory over Johnson’s Brooklyn Nets. Both were 3 of 4 from 3-point range, with Barnes making 5 of 7 from the floor and Johnson 6 of 13 shots.
When the Nets cut their deficit to 110–104 with six minutes, Barnes’ third 3-pointer helped Sacramento pull away.
Day’Ron Sharpe had four points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes for Brooklyn.
Cole Anthony collected eight points and four assists in Orlando’s 104–94 home victory over Cleveland as the Magic (16–7) remained second in the Eastern Conference.
Nassir Little suffered an orbital fracture in Phoenix’s Friday loss to Sacramento and is in concussion protocol. The Suns have ruled him out for Tuesday’s home game against Golden State.
