Tar Heels in pros: White keeps hot streak going with 27 points, 5 3-pointers; Pinson nearly gets triple-double in G League

By R.L. Bynum

Big games are becoming routine of late for Coby White.

White scored 27 points and five 3-pointers Tuesday and added eight assists and four rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for Chicago to avoid its second loss in as many nights. The Bulls lost at home to the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets 114–106 after falling to Milwaukee in overtime the night before.

Denver won despite Nikola Jokic getting ejected in the second quarter.

White extended his franchise record of consecutive games with at least three 3-pointers to 12. But while White made half his 3-point attempts (5 of 10), the rest of the team shot 26.7% from outside the arc.

White leads the NBA in 3-pointers in the last 15 games with 62, and is third in the league on the season with 79. He’s averaging 26.1 points, six assists and six rebounds in the last six games while shooting 54.2% from the floor, 53.4% from 3-point range and 90% at the free-throw line.

White has scored at least 19 points in the last seven games, including at least 30 points twice in the last five.

In the G League on Tuesday afternoon, Theo Pinson nearly got a triple-double in the Texas Legends’ 124–120 loss to Rio Grande with 15 points, 13 assists, nine rebounds and three steals.

In the season finale for Dallas last season, Pinson had a triple-double in the Mavericks’ 138–117 loss to the San Antonio Spurs with 23 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists.

Justin Jackson had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Texas on Tuesday, while Tony Bradley contributed 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
