Love’s hot second-half shooting, 23 points, lead Arizona; Dunn has 13 in Penn State win; McKoy scores 12; Nickel, Garcia each score 11

Caleb Love got hot at just the right time for No. 10 Arizona on Saturday night.

Love scored 15 of his 23 points during a pivotal second-half stretch as the host Wildcats pulled away for a 92–73 win.

“Caleb, as we know, can get hot, and he went on a heater,” Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd said. “And then I just told him, ‘Hey, take a breath. You kind of got us a little separation, now let us bring it home.’ ”

Love, who collected three 3-pointers, with six rebounds and six assists for the Wildcats (12–3, 3–1 Pac—12), scored 15 points in the first 11 minutes of the second half to help Arizona balloon its lead to 17 points.


D’Marco Dunn scored 13 points and two 3-pointers in Penn State’s 79–73 Sunday win over Michigan at The Palestra in Philadelphia. Puff Johnson had five points and three rebounds.


Justin McKoy collected 12 points, five rebounds and two assists Saturday in Hawaii’s 76–66 home loss to Cal State-Northridge, falling to 9–6 overall and 1–2 in the Big West.


In Virginia Tech’s 77–74 Saturday loss at Florida State, Tyler Nickel had 11 points and two rebounds, and is averaging 8.2 points per game for the Hokies (9–5, 1–2 ACC).

Dawson Garcia scored 11 points, with six rebounds and two assists in Minnesota’s 65–62 home victory Sunday over Maryland.


Destiny Adams had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block as host Rutgers lost to No. 4 Iowa 103–69 before a sellout crowd Friday night.


Kerwin Walton’s Texas Tech team pulled a huge upset in the Red Raiders’ Big 12 opener, winning at No. 20 Texas 78–67 on Saturday. Walton was scoreless in 28 minutes with two rebounds.
