Second straight Quad 1 win pushes UNC’s NET ranking into top 10

By R.L. Bynum

On the strength of two consecutive Quad 1 road victories, No. 8 North Carolina moved to a season-high 9th in the NET rankings, moving up three spots after Saturday’s 65–55 victory over No. 16 Clemson.

That would project UNC, which won at Pittsburgh 70–57 on Tuesday, as a high No. 3 seed.

Carolina likely will move up to at least No. 7 in the AP Top 25 when the next poll is released on Monday after No. 7 Marquette lost on the road 78–75 to unranked Seton Hall.

The Tar Heels (11–3, 3–0 ACC) have four Quad 1 wins and get a chance for a fifth on Wednesday at 8 p.m. when they visit N.C. State (11–3, 3–0), which beat Virginia 76–70 on Saturday to move up to nine spots to 64 in the NET rankings.

Quadrant 1 (UNC was 9–3): Home games against teams with a NET ranking of 30 or better, neutral-site games against teams ranked 50 or better, and road games against teams ranked 75 or better
Quadrant 2 (UNC was 74): Home 31–75, neutral 51–100, road 76–135
Quadrant 3 (UNC was 6–0): Home 76–160, neutral 101–200, road 135–240
Quadrant 4 (UNC was 5–0): Home 161 or lower, neutral 201 or lower, road 241 or lower

The only teams with more Quad 1 wins are No. 1 Purdue (6) and No. 10 Arizona (5). Villanova also has four Quad 1 wins, one against UNC.

With Clemson’s second consecutive loss, the Tigers (11–3, 1–2) fell to 24th in the NET.

Carolina’s victory over Arkansas has moved from Quad 2 to Quad 3 after the Razorbacks lost 83–51 at home Saturday to No. 25 Auburn, dropping their NET ranking to 104.
