Penn State wins twice with Dunn starting; Love, Adams, Garcia have big games

By R.L. Bynum

Caleb Love, Destiny Adams and Dawson Garcia all had big games last week, while Penn State won back-to-back games for the first time since December with D’Marco Dunn in the starting lineup.

Love scored 18 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists Sunday as No. 11 Arizona avenged a January loss to Stanford with an 82–71 home victory over Coach Jerod Haase’s Cardinal.

The Wildcats (17–5, 8–3 Pac-12) rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to win.

Love collected 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Thursday’s 91–65 home victory over Cal, scoring two 3-pointers in both games last week.

Adams scored at least 25 points for the fourth time this season on Tuesday, when she poured in 28 points in Rutgers’ 71–64 loss at Michigan State. She added 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season.

Adams had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists Saturday as Rutgers (7–17, 1–10 Big Ten) got its first Big Ten win and snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 71–70 win at Nebraska.

Garcia scored 20 points Saturday in Minnesota’s big home 75–66 overtime home win over Northwestern.

Garcia scored a 3-pointer and made five free throws in overtime as the Gophers (14–7, 5–5 Big Ten) rallied from a nine-point deficit.

Dunn had only previously started one early November game before starting both games last week, which coincided with the Nittany Lions’ first two-game win streak since mid-November.

Dunn had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals in Wednesday’s 61–46 win at Rutgers and contributed 10 points, three rebounds and four assists Saturday when Penn State (11–11, 5–6 Big Ten) won at Indiana 85–71 with 62 points in the last 25 minutes.

Will Shaver didn’t play in either game for UAB (14–8, 6–4 American) last week, an 82–79 overtime win Wednesday at North Texas and a 72–69 Sunday loss to SMU. Shaver last played in a Jan. 23 loss at Charlotte.
