With the ACC going to 18 schools next season, adding Cal, SMU and Stanford, each team will only play home-and-home with three teams in men’s basketball under the 20-game schedule, and play every other team once.

The league announced basketball schedules for next season on Thursday.

Logically, two teams that North Carolina will play twice next season are Duke and N.C. State. Some thought the third might be Wake Forest or possibly Virginia, but that third team will be Pittsburgh.

UNC will play host to Cal, SMU and Stanford in men’s basketball next season. The ACC only released matchups for next season in men’s basketball.

As previously reported in January, UNC will only play Duke home-and-home in women’s basketball and play every other team in the league once under that 18-game schedule.

The only regular-season game against N.C. State next season will be in Carmichael Arena, with the game in the 2025–26 season to be played at Reynolds Coliseum.

The Tar Heels will play at Stanford, Cal and SMU in women’s basketball next season, with all three coming to Chapel Hill for the 2025–26 season. Under the scheduling model, UNC will play games at Cal and Stanford every two seasons.

UNC’s women last played at Stanford in a 2014 regional final, losing to the Cardinal 74–65. The Tar Heels last played at Cal on Dec. 28, 1987, losing 77–72. UNC has never played SMU in women’s basketball.

The ACC announced earlier in February that only the top 15 teams will play in the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments starting next season. The 2025 ACC women’s tournament will be March 5–9 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The 2025 ACC men’s tournament will be March 11–15 at Charlotte’s Spectrum Center.
