Love enters name in NBA draft while retaining college eligibility

Caleb Love entered his name into the NBA draft on Tuesday but said he will maintain his college eligibility for now.

Love announced his decision in a post on X (formerly Twitter), calling it “God’s plan” and expressing gratitude to the Arizona coaching staff. He has until May 29 to withdraw from the draft and still be eligible to play a fifth college season.

NBA Draft Room ranks Love as the No. 102 2024 draft prospect.

Four Arizona teammates — redshirt freshman point guard Kylan Boswell (who has committed to Illinois), redshirt senior center Oumar Ballo (who committed to Indiana on Tuesday), freshman forward Paulius Marauskas and redshirt freshman Filip Borovicanin — entered the transfer portal.

After three seasons at North Carolina, which included an iconic 3-pointer to beat Duke in the 2022 Final Four, he played last season at Arizona and was the final Pac-12 Player of the Year.

After averaging 14.6 points and shooting 31.7% from 3-point range in three seasons at UNC, Love led Arizona in scoring with a career-high 18.0 points per game while shooting 33.2% (topped by his 36.0% shooting in his sophomore season at Carolina.)

His 92 3-pointers are the seventh-most in a season in Arizona program history.

Love scored a career-high 36 points in the win at Oregon, scored 20 or more points 10 times in conference games and made multiple 3-point field goals in 17 out of 20 games against Pac-12 opponents. His 82 3-pointers were one shy of breaking into the top 10 in Arizona history for a single season.

Love’s season ended on the same night and on the same Crytpo.com Arena court as Carolina as Clemson beat Arizona 77–72 in a Sweet 16 game on March 28 to end the Wildcats’ season at 27–9.
