Tar Heels in NBA: Barnes hits 17 as Kings oust Warriors; White’s Bulls play elimination game Wednesday

By R.L. Bynum

Harrison Barnes was a Golden State Warrior when the franchise won the first of four NBA titles in the last nine years, and he had a hand in all but ending that dynasty on Tuesday night.

Barnes, a member of the 2015 NBA champion Warriors before signing with the Dallas Mavericks in 2016, scored 17 points as his Sacramento Kings beat Golden State 118–94 in an elimination game in the NBA play-in tournament.

The win came one year after Golden State ended Sacramento’s season in a seven-game first-round series. It advanced the Kings to another elimination game at 9:30 Friday at New Orleans (TNT).

Barnes, who was 5 of 11 from the floor and 3 of 4 from 3-point range with four rebounds and three assists, scored 14 points and two 3-pointers in the second half.

At 9:30 Wednesday, Coby White’s Chicago Bulls host the Atlanta Hawks in an elimination game (ESPN). A win would advance Chicago to another elimination game against the loser of the 7 p.m. Wednesday Miami at Philadelphia game (ESPN).

First-round series begin on Saturday with Cole Anthony’s Orlando Magic, the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, playing Game 1 with the No. 4-seed Cavaliers at Cleveland at 1 p.m. (ESPN). Pete Nance played most of the season in the G League but is on the Cavaliers’ roster.

Game 1 of the Western Conference series between Nassir Little’s No. 6-seed Phoenix Suns and the No. 3-seed Timberwolves starts at 3:30 Saturday (ESPN).
