Belmont perimeter shooter Cade Tyson will transfer to North Carolina.
The brother of former Clemson and current Denver Nuggets forward Hunter Tyson, he had also been considering Duke, Kentucky and Tennessee but announced his commitment on social media on Sunday afternoon.
The 6–7, 205-pound wing from Monroe, N.C., who visited UNC last weekend, has two years of eligibility left. Tyson was first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference last season after earning MVC Rookie of the Year honors the previous season.
He started all 31 games for the Bruins, averaging 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds, with 49 assists, 27 steals and 18 blocks.
Tyson’s career-high was 31 points last season on Dec. 16 in a 99–93 loss at Samford when he scored a career-high six 3-pointers. He tied that 3-pointer total mark in a Feb. 24 home 93–78 win over Missouri State, when he scored 25 points.
He went from shooting 41.7% from 3-point range with 48 3-pointers as a freshman to shooting at a 46.5% clip last season, when he scored 80 3-pointers.
Tyson was the 2022 North Carolina Mr. Basketball after leading Carmel Christian School to a 55–4 record in his last two seasons, including a North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association state title.
Belmont went 20–13 and finished fourth in the MVC at 12–8 last season.
