Both North Carolina soccer teams are in the top 10 of their respective United Soccer Coaches Top 25 preseason polls that the ACC tops and dominates.
The Tar Heels’ men’s team is one of five ACC teams in the top 10 at No. 6, while the UNC women’s team is one of four top-10 ACC teams at No. 8. Clemson’s men (15–3–5 last season) are No. 1 and Florida State’s reigning national champion women (22–0–1) are No. 1 in the polls released Tuesday.
Coach Carlos Somoano’s men’s team, which hosts an exhibition game against Campbell at 7 p.m. Saturday and opens the season at UAB on Aug. 22, went 11–4–7 last season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.

Coach Anson Dorrance’s women’s team, which beat DC Power 5–1 in a Sunday exhibition, hosts Davidson in a 1 p.m. exhibition on Saturday and opens the season at Denver on Aug. 15, went 13–2–8 a year ago and lost in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Other ACC men’s teams in the poll are No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Stanford, No. 10 SMU, No. 13 Virginia, No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 20 Duke, and No. 25 Syracuse. Other league teams in the women’s poll are No. 2 Stanford, No. 5 Clemson, No. 7 Pittsburgh, No. 15 Notre Dame and No. 24 Duke.
