The Baltimore Orioles have promoted outfielder Vance Honeycutt after only eight games in the Carolina League.
Honeycutt made his minor-league debut 10 days ago in Kinston with the Delmarva Shorebirds in the low-A Carolina League but now is off to the Orioles’ high-A South Atlantic League team, the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
Baltimore made Honeycutt the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the MLB draft in July. He was one of five 2024 Baltimore draft picks to get that promotion, joining shortstop Griff O’Ferrall (first round, 32nd pick out of Virginia), catcher Ethan Anderson (2nd, 61st, Virginia), outfielder Austin Overn (3rd, 97th, USC) and catcher Ryan Stafford (5th, 160th, Cal Poly.)
Honeycutt went 1 for 3 on Saturday for Delmarva with two steals and was 0 for 3 on Sunday, both home games against Salem.
Honeycutt hit .226 for the Shorebirds, with a double, three RBI and four steals. In 31 at-bats, he drew four walks and struck out 13 times. Honeycutt didn’t commit an error.
If he had not gotten called up, Honeycutt would have played the Carolina Mudcats in Zebulon this week. Instead, he’ll be in Aberdeen for its final regular-season series. The Ironbirds play Jersey Shore, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, in a six-game series that runs Tuesday through Sunday.
