North Carolina is reportedly one of eight schools that have shown interest in Georgia State’s Jeremiah Johnson, one of the top safeties in the transfer portal.
The 5–11, 192-pound All-Sun Belt Conference selection the last two seasons, who defended a career-high six passes last season, has received interest from UNC, Penn State, USC, Indiana, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt and Missouri, according to Pete Nakos of On3.com.
Coach Bill Belichick has commitments from 10 transfers so far: Delaware defensive lineman Melkart Abou-Jaoude, Purdue quarterback Ryan Browne, South Carolina tight end Connor Cox, Washington linebacker Khmori House, Michigan State wide receiver Aziah Johnson, Holy Cross center Christo Kelly, Rice offensive lineman Chad Lindberg, Alabama offensive tackle Miles McVay, East Carolina defensive tackle C.J. Mims and Michigan place-kicker Adam Samaha.
Johnson played three seasons at Georgia State after two seasons at Mississippi Delta Community College. Thanks to a blanket waiver the NCAA Division I Board of Directors gave former junior college transfers on Monday, Johnson has one more season of eligibility.
Johnson, who was a two-way player as a wide receiver in high school, recorded 105 tackles, 57 assists and two interceptions in 37 games with the Panthers, including 38 tackles and 31 assists last season. He had 31 tackles and four assists at Mississippi Delta over 12 games in his two seasons there.
