UNC holds AP Top 25 women’s poll spot after big road win at Miami

By R.L. Bynum

Without any teams ahead of North Carolina in last week’s AP Top 25 women’s poll losing, the Tar Heels didn’t move up in the latest poll despite an impressive road victory.

The Tar Heels (13–2, 1–1 ACC) held Miami to a season-low point total in a 69–60 victory for their third consecutive win and held at No. 17 in the poll. It’s the first time UNC has been ranked in the first eight polls since the 2022–23 season and only the second time since the 2014–15 season.

Carolina, 20th in the NET rankings, gets a week off before facing its biggest test of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday at Carmichael Arena against No. 3 Notre Dame (11–2, 2–0), which garnered a first-place vote.

Only two teams in last week’s poll lost, and there were no changes in the top 18.

Other ACC teams in the poll are No. 13 Georgia Tech (14–0, 2–0), No. 14 Duke (10–3, 1–0), No. 20 California (13–1, 1–0) and No. 22 N.C. State (10–3, 2–0). Only Cal changed positions, going up one spot even though the Bears didn’t play.
