UNC reportedly to play men’s exhibition game against BYU

By R.L. Bynum

North Carolina’s men’s basketball team will reportedly play an exhibition game in late October against BYU in a matchup of two of the top players in the Class of 2025.

It will be an intriguing game, with the Cougars’ A.J. Dybansta going up against the Tar Heels’ Caleb Wilson. Both are expected to be high picks in the 2026 NBA draft, and each played in the McDonald’s All-American game and the Jordan Brand Classic. Dybansta is No. 1 in the Class of 2025 and Wilson is No. 5, according to ESPN.

According to a report from Robby McCombs of the SB Nation site Vanquish the Foe, the game will be the second of two BYU exhibitions and will be played in Salt Lake City at the Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz. The report suggests that there could be another exhibition between the two schools at a neutral site in North Carolina in another season.

McCombs reported that BYU athletics director Brian Santiago announced the game during Friday’s BYU Fathers and Sons Basketball Camp.

UNC has won all five of its meetings with BYU, the last of which was a 73–63 victory in the Las Vegas Invitational on Nov. 24, 2007, when UNC was the No. 1 team.

BYU went 26–10 last season and lost to Alabama 113–88 in the Sweet 16 in its first season under head coach Kevin Young, who previously was the associate head coach of the Phoenix Suns.

Roster assuming all players with eligibility other than Caleb Wilson, Henri Veesaar and the seven players who entered the transfer portal return, which would put UNC two under the 15-player limit. The class for next season is listed.
