Speedy George Mason outfielder Hull UNC’s seventh transfer commitment

Speedy George Mason outfielder Owen Hull on Tuesday became North Carolina’s seventh transfer portal commitment.

He made the announcement on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

“I’m excited to announce that I am furthering my academic and baseball career at the University of North Carolina,” Hull wrote. “I am beyond blessed and thankful for my family, coaches, and those who have gotten me to this point in my journey.”

Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball called the left-handed-hitting Hull one of the best outfielders available in the portal.

Hull, who has also played first base, hit .367 while starting all 61 games last season, mostly in right field, with eight home runs and 63 RBI. He drew 41 walks and struck out only 46 times in 237 at-bats, and led the team with 42 steals, 13 sacrifice bunts and 83 runs.

During a four-game stretch in early April, Hull hit .563 (9 of 16) with a double, five RBI, three walks and two steals and hit a game-ending 10th-inning home run in an 8–6 victory over Saint Louis.

In Carolina’s 13–4 home victory against George Mason on April 29, Hull batted second and went 2 for 5 with singles to left field in the sixth and seventh innings, the latter driving in a run.

The 6–4, 215-pound Hull, who is a magna cum laude graduate of Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Va., played only 14 games as a freshman.

Playing for Florence in the Coastal Plain League last summer, he hit .310 in the wooden-bat league, playing first base and center field.

George Mason went 40–21 overall and 20–10 in the Atlantic 10.

Hull joins six players who earlier announced they were transferring to UNC: Duke catcher Macon Winslow, UNCW relief pitcher Trace Baker, North Dakota State shortstop Jake Schaffner, Georgia State catcher Colin Hynek, Georgia State outfielder Michael Maginnis and Stony Brook first baseman Erik Paulsen.
