Two NCAA title wins, snow day blowout highlight UNC takeover day on ACC Network

A snow day blowout, two national championship wins and seven victories against ranked teams highlight North Carolina’s annual takeover day on ACC Network. It’s a good time to load up your DVRs with memorable Tar Heels victories in the last year.

The ACC Network’s annual school-by-school summer takeovers series, which goes in alphabetical order, began on June 25 with Boston College and ends with Wake Forest on July 21.

The Tar Heels’ day is Tuesday, stacked with championship performances and unforgettable wins, two of them that started at the same time on a Sunday afternoon in late May.

The day of programming features an afternoon of women’s NCAA championship-game victories.

At noon, you can relive the No. 1 Tar Heels’ 12–8 lacrosse victory over No. 3 Northwestern to finish a perfect 22–0 season.

If you were watching UNC win its ninth ACC baseball title that late May afternoon (you can also watch that on Tuesday), you should watch that lacrosse game to marvel at the amazing performance, particularly the four-goal, one-assist show put on by freshman sensation Chloe Humphrey.

At 2 p.m., the network will air No. 8 Carolina’s 1–0 victory over No. 3 Wake Forest in Cary for the soccer title. That championship game was much more tense than the lacrosse game, but the Tar Heels made Olivia Thomas’ goal in the 62nd minute hold up to earn the program’s 23rd national championship.

Another heart-thumping Carolina win, which airs at 2 a.m., is the No. 12 women’s basketball team’s upset of No. 10 N.C. State, despite playing the last 37½ minutes without star Alyssa Ustby.

Reniya Kelly picked up the slack with career-highs of 23 points and five 3-pointers. But it took a pair of Grace Townsend free throws with 5.2 seconds left and a huge last-second defensive stop to secure the victory.

There was no such tension when the No. 3 UNC baseball team rolled to a 14–4 victory over No. 14 Clemson in Durham on May 25 for the ACC title. Any questions were dispelled with a 41-minute, 12-batter eight-run fifth inning for the Tar Heels, highlighted by Hunter Stokely’s home run to right field.

The other wins over ranked teams that will air are at:
— Midnight, the 3–2 Oct. 25 home volleyball win over No. 19 Florida State, after twice rallying from a set behind.
— 4 a.m., the No. 7 Tar Heels’ 8–7 men’s lacrosse road victory on April 12 over No. 12 Duke.
— 6 a.m., the No. 25 Tar Heels’ 20–17 home Jan. 10 wrestling win over No. 8 Virginia Tech, the first win over the Hokies in five years.

The highlight of the other games is from the mid-February day when snow led UNC officials to allow anybody who could get to the Smith Center to attend the N.C. State men’s basketball game for free.

At 4 p.m., you can relive the raucous crowd of mostly students and a convincing 97–73 victory over N.C. State on Feb. 19.

The other wins will be shown at:
— 8 a.m., the 196.575–195.800 gymnastics home victory on Feb. 9 over Clemson.
— 10 a.m., the 8–3 softball win home on April 13 over Georgia Tech.
— 6 p.m., the 35–11 football win on Nov. 2 at Florida State.

From thrilling narrow wins to blowouts, Carolina fans can relive the best of the 2024–25 school year on Tuesday — a full day celebrating Tar Heel triumphs across a wide range of sports.
