Caleb Love put on a show in his NBA Summer League debut, and Armando Bacot had his best performance in three games during the second day of action in Las Vegas ahead of playing each other on Saturday night.
Love, who signed a two-way contract with Portland, started and collected 18 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal in the Trail Blazers’ 106–73 victory Friday over the Golden State Warriors.
Love was 7 of 16 from the floor, made 4 of 7 3-point attempts and was a team-high +25.
Justin McKoy is also on Portland’s Summer League team, and had a point, a rebound and a steal in 5½ minutes off the bench.
Bacot, in his third game after playing in two of Memphis’ three games in Salt Lake City, contributed 14 points, a team-high six rebounds, two assists and a block in the Grizzlies’ 92–78 loss to the Boston Celtics. Bacot committed seven fouls, which was still three under the Summer League limit.
Love’s Trail Blazers play Bacot’s Grizzlies at 10:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2).
There are many Tar Heels in Las Vegas, including Roy Williams, UNC assistant coach Pat Sullivan, Golden State assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse, Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Jawad Williams and Theo Pinson. Many of them were in a photo that the UNC men’s basketball X (formerly Twitter) account posted on Friday night.
In the debut of his third consecutive Summer League, but first with Washington, Leaky Black played nearly 9½ minutes and had three points, three rebounds and an assist in the Wizards’ 103–84 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
Dawson Garcia played 13½ minutes and had six points, five rebounds, an assist and a block in his Summer League debut for the Detroit Pistons, a 105–96 victory over the New York Knicks. Garrison Brooks is also on the Pistons’ Summer League roster but didn’t play (coach’s decision).
In addition to Love and Bacot meeting on Saturday, other former Tar Heels playing will be:
— Pete Nance, Cormac Ryan and the Milwaukee Bucks, who take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at 3:30 p.m. on NBATV.
— Harrison Ingram, whose San Antonio Spurs meet Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks at 4 p.m. on ESPN.
