Love caps strong Summer League with fifth double-digit scoring game

By R.L. Bynum

Caleb Love closed out his NBA Summer League run with another solid showing, scoring in double figures for the fifth time in five games.

Love scored 11 points to go with four rebounds and two assists in the Portland Trail Blazers’ 111–87 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Saturday in Las Vegas.

He had six points and two rebounds in the first quarter to lead Portland, which finished 3–2, to a 25–19 lead.

Love, who signed a two-way contract with the Blazers earlier this month, averaged 26.8 minutes, 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists while shooting 35.1% from the floor, making 33.3% of his 3-point attempts and 72.2% of his free-throw attempts.

Blazers teammate Justin McKoy played nearly 17½ minutes off the bench, scoring six points on a pair of 3-pointers.

Kerwin Walton’s Oklahoma City Thunder lost in a semifinal game 109–80 to the Charlotte Hornets. Walton had three points on a 3-pointer in just under six minutes. The top four teams made the semifinals while other teams played consolation games.

After two consecutive games scoring in double figures, Harrison Ingram had five points, four rebounds and three assists in San Antonio’s 96–84 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

For the Pistons, Garrison Brooks had six points and three rebounds while Dawson Garcia contributed five points, two rebounds, two assists and a block.

After playing in the Washington Wizards’ first four games, Leaky Black didn’t get into their 94–85 victory Saturday over the New York Knicks.

On the final day of the Summer League was Sunday. Armando Bacot didn’t play for the Memphis Grizzlies in their 105–82 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Las Vegas schedule reflects each team’s first four Summer League games there, which count toward tournament seeding. The top four teams advance to the semifinals July 18, with the championship game July 19. TV assignments for several later-round games were still to be determined.

Note that an experimental one-free-throw rule is in place. One, two and three free-throw sequences produce a single attempt worth the same total points, except for the final two minutes of the fourth quarter and all overtime periods when standard free‑throw rules apply.
