North Carolina added depth to its front court and another big body when rising sophomore Ivan Matlekovic committed to the Tar Heels, according to multiple reports.
The 7–0, 245-pound center played five games as a freshman at High Point, contributing 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks in 31 minutes while making 6 of 8 field-goal attempts. The commitment was first reported by On3.

His most extensive playing time for High Point, which competes in the Big South Conference, came in a 99–31 win over Carolina University (an NCCAA Winston-Salem school formerly known as Piedmont International University), where he played 13 minutes and collected nine points and four rebounds.
He’ll give 7–0, 235-pound Arizona center transfer Henri Veesaar, a redshirt junior, another big man to battle in practice and joins him as one of 10 newcomers to the Carolina roster. He’ll be a bit of a project who can possibly develop into a bigger role later in his career.
Matlekovic is from Sisak, Croatia, and has played for the Croatian National Team in the 2022 FIBA U18 European Championship and for HAKK Mlodost Zagreb in the Croatian basketball league.
Also new to the program are freshmen Caleb Wilson, Isaiah Dennis and Derek Dixon; sophomore Jonathan Powell; and juniors Kyan Evans, Jaydon Young and Jarin Stevenson. Also expected to join the program is Luka Bogavac from Montenegro.
With Matlekovic, Bogavac and Estonian Veesar, UNC will have three Europeans on the roster.
A factor in Matlekovic’s decision to transfer could be that the head coach who recruited him at High Point, Alan Huss, left to join Greg McDermott’s coaching staff at Creighton. Huff will be the head-coach-in-waiting there.

Roster assuming all players with eligibility other than Caleb Wilson, Henri Veesaar and the seven players who entered the transfer portal return, which would put UNC two under the 15-player limit. The class for next season is listed.
