Lakers waive Davis, who likely will play for their G League team

By R.L. Bynum

RJ Davis was one of four players the Los Angeles Lakers waived on Saturday, but is expected to join the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate.

Also waived were fellow rookie point guard Augustas Marčiulionis, second-year forward Anton Watson and Nate Williams.

In five preseason games, Davis averaged 16.1 minutes, 8.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game, shooting 50% from 3-point range and making 13 of 14 free-throw attempts. Williams is the only other player in that group who played five games.

Davis, who signed an Exhibit 10 contract on July 26, had his best game in his preseason debut on Oct. 3 when he scored 14 points and a 3-pointer in 18 minutes against the Phoenix Suns. Two days later, on Oct. 5 at Golden State, he had 11 points with a 3-pointer and eight free throws, then combined for 21 points in his last three games.

G League camps open on Oct. 27, with the rosters finalized on Oct. 6 and play beginning on Nov. 7. The South Bay Lakers play their home games in El Segundo, Calif.
