— Carolina leads the “South’s Oldest Rivalry” 66–59–4, including 33–15–3 in Kenan Stadium, and has won three of the last four, including 41–14 in Charlottesville last season.
— It’s the first meeting with Virginia ranked since UNC’s 7–5 win in 2005 over the No. 23 Cavaliers in Kenan Stadium. The Cavaliers are 7–4–1 against the Tar Heels as a ranked team.
— The only matchups that have been played more than the 129 times are UNC and Virginia 134 times and Wisconsin-Minnesota (134 times) and Georgia-Auburn (130 times). In the first meeting, Virginia won 30–18 on Oct. 22, 1892. They’ve didn’t play for two years during World War I, but have met every season since 1919.
— Virginia, who have the second-longest active win streak in the ACC at five, is the highest-scoring team in the ACC (40 points per game) and ninth in the country, while Carolina is 17th in the ACC at 18.7 per game.
— North Carolina ranks 10th nationally in fewest penalties with only 29 this season. That leads the ACC and is two fewer than any other league team. The Tar Heels are averaging just 4.83 penalties per game.
— UNC has lost its last four ACC games since beating Wake Forest 31–24 on Nov. 16, 2024.
— Virginia has won three of its four games decided by seven points or fewer, including back-to-back overtime games against Florida State (46–38, 2 OTs) and Louisville (30–27).
— Cavaliers quarterback Chandler Morris (top photo) leads an offense that’s averaging 462.3 yards of total offense, and off to its best start since 2007. He is one of five ACC QBs with 15 total touchdowns and is averaging 256.9 yards total offense. He has completed 68.8% of his passes and has thrown for 1,607 yards (229.6 per game) and 11 touchdowns.
— Virginia running back J’Mari Taylor is one of 24 FBS tailbacks — and one of three in the ACC — with eight rushing touchdowns and has scored at least one rushing TD in 16 of his last 18 games, dating back to his time at N.C. Central.
— UNC’s keys to victory: Win turnover battle, pressure Morris, disrupt the run game and convert red-zone chances with touchdowns rather than field goals.
