Cade Tyson was solid against his first Power 4 opponent, while Elliot Cadeau had two contrasting games and Jalen Washington got his first start ahead of a busy Saturday of games for former North Carolina players.

Tyson is averaging 22.7 points through three games at Minnesota (2–1) after scoring 17 points in Wednesday’s 83–60 loss at Missouri. He went 5 of 11 from 3-point range in the Gophers’ first two games, but missed all four attempts outside the arc against the Tigers.

Cadeau’s performances as the No. 6 Michigan team moved to 3–0 with a big 85–84 overtime victory over Wake Forest in Detroit on Tuesday and a 67–63 victory Friday at TCU couldn’t have been more different.

In the victory over the Deacons, he collected 18 points, two 3-pointers, eight rebounds and seven assists against five turnovers.

But Friday’s win was a rough one for the junior guard. Cadeau had six rebounds and two steals, but only three points on 1 of 6 shooting with one assist and six turnovers.

That was tied for the second-most turnovers in 77 career games. Last season, he had seven in UNC’s 68–65 home win Dec. 7 over Georgia Tech, six in the 85–65 loss Feb. 10 at Clemson and six in the 92–90 win Nov. 25 at the Maui Invitational against Dayton.

The foul trouble that persisted for Cadeau last season has continued at Michigan. Cadeau, who had at least four fouls in 13 of 37 games at UNC last season, was whistled for four fouls in both games.

After coming off the bench in the first two games for Vanderbilt (3–0), Jalen Washington started in Wednesday’s 92–62 victory over Eastern Kentucky. He played 15½ minutes, with eight points, four rebounds, a block and a steal, but battled foul trouble (finishing with four fouls.)

Washington had a block that led to a three-point play for Tyler Nickel at the other end.

Nickel, who has started all three games, had eight points, four rebounds and two assists against Eastern Kentucky.

In other action this week:

— Ven-Allen Lubin had six points and five rebounds while dealing with foul trouble (four fouls) in 3–0 N.C. State’s 110–64 home win on Wednesday over UNCG.
